POLSON- A Polson man who is accused in the largest Ponzi scheme in Montana history is set to plead guilty this week.

Robert Congdon is one of two men implicated in the scheme to rip off investors in connection with Cornerstone Financial, which the state named in an investigation more than three years ago. The state said Congdon and Keith Kovick bilked investors out of more than $14-million, starting in 2005.

Congdon is set to plead guilty to several federal charges when he appears in U.S. District Court in Missoula Wednesday morning. Under terms of the plea agreement, prosecutors say Congdon will admit to one count of mail fraud, one count of wire fraud and 14 counts of money laundering.

The government had initially accused Congdon of 23 counts of money laundering. He faces up to 10 years in prison and several hundred thousand dollars in fines as well as forfeiting more than $1.3 million to the government.

Kovick has already pleaded not guilty and is asking the court for more time for his attorneys to go through the thousands of pages prosecutors have filed in the case.
