DIXON- As the New Year rolls around, folks in towns facing possible U.S.Postal Service closures are hoping for a miracle.
The USPS is waiting until May 15th to close an expecting 85 Montana facilities, giving Congress time to plan a way to save the service.
Citizens in the small town of Dixon say they are worried that if the Post Office closes they will have to drive to surrounding areas to get their mail.
Driving on icy roads to neighboring towns is dangerous as well as expensive but they tell us the closure would also have social implications.
"Especially the older people. That's what they live for each day is to get their mail," said Dixon resident, Cindy Hill, "that's their social time. They go down to talk to the post master. They meet other people at the post office getting their mail so that's how they communicate with people."
An employee at the Dixon Post Office told us she is worried she will lose her job as she is among the 28,000 expected to lose their jobs with the Post Office nationwide.
