Flu season is upon us and 18 states are already confirming cases of influenza for this year. In Montana, the Department of Health is trying to get the word out about immunization and the dangers of this infectious disease.
Health officials say as many as one third of the population can be infected throughout the season, that translates to as many as 400,000 people here under the big sky.
Vaccines are assembled based on information from the southern hemisphere. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention then help make available enough of the vaccines as are needed.
Montana health officials are encouraging all Montanans to to get the vaccines. Even if you're not worried about the disease for youself, if you ensure you're not going to get sick, that can keep everyone around you from getting sick from you.
