KALISPELL- The Flathead City-County Health Department is reaching out to teenagers and young adults about their sexual health this month and stopped by Flathead Valley Community College on Wednesday to talk with students.
February is normally known as a month of love, romance and Valentines Day, but the health department wants people to start thinking of it as Sexual Health Awareness Month also.
A pair of employees from the health department set up shop in the foyer at FVCC where students could approach a booth about Sexual Health Awareness Month.
One of the employees has been going to different schools around the valley and educating students on sexual health and on Wednesday it was the college students turn to ask questions and become informed.
"There's a stigma on talking about their sexual health or maybe even going into a grocery store and buying condoms. If we bring them here on their own territory they can just come grab them and feel a little less embarrassed. We want to make sure people know that sexual health isn't an embarrassing topic," Flathead Family Planning Health Promotion Specialist Mandie Fleming explained.
The Flathead City-County Health Department will be promoting Women and Girl HIV Awareness Week in March.
