KALISPELL- An avalanche struck in Jewel Basin just east of Kalispell in the Swan Range on Wednesday.
Flathead County Undersheriff Jordan White says two people were skiing in the area just south of Wild Cat Lake when the avalanche struck around 1:45 p.m.
One skier managed to get out of the avalanche to report it, but the other is still missing and authorities are assuming that person is trapped in the avalanche.
White says the clouds are too low for rescuers to fly down, so they are having to search for the missing skier by hiking into the area.
